BEYOND CALORIC RESTRICTION

Nutritional  Deficiencies Do Not Cause Disease…Dis-Ease Causes Nutritional Deficiencies.

Macronutrients are the driving "force" of our biochemistry.  If the body is faced with an excess of carbohydrates, proteins, or fats, it first has to respond by increasing its digestive (enzymatic), and then assimilative (substrates) functions. The cells must also  address any excess substrates (from the citric acid cycle) that  are not readily used for energy, structure, or function by producing  an excess of saturated fats (long chain) and cholesterol. Additionally, the body must also detoxify as much of the by products as possible.  At this point, the neuroendocrine system becomes concerned with maintaining homeostasis at the expense of health, vitality, and  longevity, just one example being the decline in hormonal support with aging. All of these processes, the ultimate fate of carbohydrates,  fats, and proteins require micronutrient support. Unfortunately, the foods that push the metabolism the most are, relative to the  macronutrient content, micronutrient deficient. That  is, the physiologic load from consuming macronutrient dense foods  require more vitamins, minerals, and enzymes than the foods supply. Therefore, many of the foods we believe to be healthy actually create  nutritional deficiencies. The point being, foods that push ATP production the most are, relatively speaking, antioxidant deficient (Pattern III), foods that push fat metabolism the most create Vitamin C  deficiencies (Pattern V),  and so on. Therefore, nutritional deficiencies do not cause disease…dis-ease causes nutritional deficiencies.

Chronic disease and aging is not due to a singular aspect of physiology  (e.g., oxidative stress), system (e.g., neuroendocrine), or nutritional  deficiency, but results from any physiologic demand that ultimately  compromises energy, structure, or function beyond homeostatic limits,  and the tissue(s) or organ(s) involved. For example, one aspect  of excess carbohydrate intake is the demand it (carbohydrates) places  on the liver to saturate fats at the expense of unsaturating fats (Pattern V). This can compromise anti-inflammatory processes resulting in prolonged inflammation (loss of homeostasis). If the organ involved is the colon, then  the disease is colitis. If the organ involved is the skin, then  the disease is dermatitis, and so on. Therefore,  it is the quantity and/or quality of carbohydrates, fats, or proteins that determine both the degree of health and/or the disease(s) an individual may experience.

Important Considerations
From years of clinical research and application  we have found the following to be very important considerations:

Each macronutrient has specific effects on digestion, assimilation, hormone and neurotransmitter metabolism, detoxification, and energy production either positively (nourishing) or negatively (stimulating)  depending again on source and quantity.

What is perceived by most researchers and healthcare providers as nutritional deficiencies actually results from foods that are  over-stimulating to those aspects of physiology requiring more nutritional support than would otherwise be necessary, thus making the cell require more nutrition than the foods actually supply.

The foods that create the greatest metabolic demand are, relatively  speaking, the most nutrient deficient.

It is the source of macronutrients, not calories, that is important, as increasing vegetable sources of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates  are naturally lower in calorie and thus, allow for the greatest  metabolic efficiency and support. This is due to the fact that they are naturally lower in macronutrients (calorie) and higher in micronutrients.

Our mental/emotional well-being and exercise has a direct and  profound influence on our metabolic state. The better you eat, the more you need to exercise…within optimum limits.

Addressing Metabolic Demands
Instead of addressing nutritional deficiencies,  most of which are due to continued cellular responses to a less than optimum environment, simply change the environment. Metabolic  Therapies accomplishes this by utilizing a "nutritive" and dietary  approach, thus changing the environment of the cell allowing the cell to release its metabolic push or cycle as it "relearns" its biochemical responses. A few simple considerations can have a profound effect on the cellular environment…keeping in mind, the more dietary choices are addressed, the more health, vitality, and longevity will be experience.

Step 1. Introduce the three "nutritive formulas": this supplies enzymatic and nutrient rich sources of proteins, carbohydrates,  and fats that are easily digested and assimilated as they are among  the most bio-available foods for optimizing cellular physiology. By addressing the physiology from a point  of efficiency vs. deficiency, most people notice an increased desire for raw vegetables and fruits and less desire for snacks and heavier  foods as the physiology moves into a more balanced metabolic state.

Step 2. Consume larger portions of green vegetables and fruits:this naturally reduces the quantity of proteins (fish, fowl, animal) and carbohydrates (grains and beans).

Step 3. Begin to make better choices:this improves the quality of macronutrients and the quantity of micronutrients. Refer to the table below for basic dietary guidelines, keeping in mind that too little or too much exercise, and too little mental/emotional  stimulus (e.g., depression, unhappiness, hopelessness, etc.) or  too much (stress, over-worked, etc.) will have a negative effect  on food choices.

INCREASE GREEN VEGETABLES AND FRUITS

PRIMARY OIL/LIPID SOURCES
1 - 2 TBS. of olive oil
2 - 3 TBS. of coconut or 1/2 - 1 TBS. of coconut oil
1/2 - 1 TBS of sesame oil if desired

PROTEINS
Choose sea vegetables over fish over fowl and egg over animal and dairy

CARBOHYDRATES
Choose yellow and orange vegetables over sprouted grains and beans
over whole grains and beans over processed grains, potatoes and nuts
